Hi.
please help me with the proper battle card between HP data protector and Backup Exec 2014
Hi.
please help me with the proper battle card between HP data protector and Backup Exec 2014
I have two VMWare Server which 1st VMWare Server hold one Win2008 1st AD (also act as files server) and one Exchange 2010 VM. 2nd VMWare Server hold Win2008 2nd AD which install Symantec Backup V-ray edition act as backup server. Backup will transfer to one NAS shared folder. I found that Symantec backup Exec V-ray edition cannot make backup these days. The error shows:

i am getting this error when running an inventory and catalog on backup exec 2014
The requested media is not listed in the media index and could not be mounted. To add the media's catalog information to the disk-based catalogs, run an inventory operation on the media and resubmit the Catalog operation.
I've started supporting a customer that has two Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 machines with the Hyper-V roles installed (Host1 and Host2). They're clustered and hold 6 VMS between them (normally 3 VMs on each host). Backup Exec 2012 SP4 (Hotfix 215906 & 217247) is installed on a separate physical server that runs Server 2008 R2 SP1.
The backups were working smoothly until Host2 was restarted to replace a faulty memory stick. Since then any VMs that are on Host2 fail to backup. The VMs can be migrated from one host to another and the result is exactly the same, so at present the customer is keeping the VMs on Host1 so that they backup each night. This is fine for the short-term but naturally there's no redundancy in the environment and also less resources to run the servers.
The error in Backup Exec is that it simply fails to communicate with the VMs on Host2. I've confirmed this by creating a duplicate backup job, which sees the VMs but fails to view the volumes on Host2 when they're expanded but the ones on Host1 are fine. I've compared the hosts for differences within the operating system and have found the following:
I'm sure that it's going to be a simple permissions related issue but I'm looking for a little assistance with the diagnostic process as I'm new to supporting Backup Exec.
Thanks in advance.
I've been reading and playing around with the VM Agent in BE2014SP2.
It appears that using the agent is the new/best way to do backups. My dilemma is that I have many directories/areas that I do not want backed up because they do not need to be and frankly I do not have the room to do so.
From what I can see, if I use the VM agent I have to backup everything. There is no option to de-select folders and files.
With that said, in this case, my only option is to not use the agent and continue backing up with no agent?
Am I off in left field or am I correct with my assumptions?
I am working a case with support with no luck so far on this issue and I wonder if anyone has any similar problems. We do two different backup sets for our Exchange 2010 server. One is just for the two mailstores using the exchange agent and the other is a full SDR for the whole server. Our D drive on the server had two drives fail in the RAID and we had to go to the backup to get our server back online.
The restore of the system and the edb files worked seemingly correctly, and esutil said the mailbox store was fine. But it would not start or even let us run the Exchange Management Console. We had to call an emergency support case with Microsoft to see why it wasn't working. Microsoft found that some of the exe files in the bin folder of Exchange were missing. Not all of them, just some of them including msexchnageadtopologyservice.exe and store.exe.
Microsoft support was able to help us get the files from service packs for Exchange and so we are back up and running. But why are the exe files not being backed up?
The full backups have no errors or warnings and none of the history shows these files ever being backed up in any of the catalogs. They won't backup today either. I run a separate backup of just those files and the job says it backs up 0 files in 6 directories, but no warning or error about skipped files. The security permissions on these files that don't show up are the same as the ones that do show up. There are no exclusions in BE that any support person has been able to find.
My main frustration is that I cannot restore Exchange from a full Exchange backup using Backup Exec 2014. I am out the $500 for the off-hours Microsoft call as well as making our team work an extra 10 hours over the holiday to get the system back from this bug / oddity / feature in BE that I have no explanation for yet. But I am incredibly thankful that it was on the holiday because the cost of being down during a manufacturing day would have been astronomically higher.
I have a theory that these files might be in use from antivirus running on that server, but I can copy the store.exe to another folder without problem. Once it is copied to a different folder from bin, it correctly backs up with BE 2014 from the non-bin folder.
I know this has been discussed alot but I need something from a beginner point of view. My experience with sql is very, very limited. A couple of our back ups started erroring out with "sql agent was not used to create the last full, differential, or log backup of this database". I understand the log sequence number might be out of line. There is one solution that explains how to check if sql is making its own backups but it doesn't follow through with how to change or check the sequnce number (article tech 175766) but I don't get to the report it is looking for the "Backup and Restore Events Report" apparently does not exist on these servers. Anybody out there got screen shots on how to reset the sequence number?

Anyone have experience of doing a boack, offsite or other method with BESR 20134 and a NAS device?
I an trying belt and braces,
1,. An external drive via a USB sock, this works fine. and.
2. A NAS box over a network.
Option 2 is the problem, I have contacted support but they were unable to help. If anyone has experience of similar I wouls aporeciate help.
I can set up and configure the NAS to accept the backup, paths, user ids and passwords, but when it comes to running a backup to it, it fails.
(I will update this post with those codes later) If anyone has tried a NAS backup and couold help, I'd be very happy.
Thanks. P.

Hi,
I'm trying to use BE 2014, with the de-dup option to backup remote site data. This data was previously replicated to a local server via DFSR. I was hoping to use a copy of the DFSR replicated data to seed so that I don't have to copy heaps of data over the wire.
I ran a backup of the replicated remote site DFRS data from the DFSR replica server shadow copy components to the de-dup volume. Then I setup a job to backup the remote site data (same data that was replciated to the DFRS replica server). However, nothing's getting appended to the de-dup volume - even when I add a new file to the remote site server.
Any idea what's goign on? Should I be backing up the DFSR replica folder as opposed to the shadow copy components? I thought this was how DFSR folders are meant to be backed up? Or is there another issue as to why no data's being copied to the de-dup volume after it was seeded?
Thanks
Hi All,
I've recently set up Enterprise Vault 11, and I'm now trying to get it backed up using Backup Exec 2014.
Specifically, I'm having an issue with browsing the SQL Databases via the Directory for <server name> in BE2014. See below:
I've tried setting the job up with a Domain Admin account which has appropriate SQL permissions, and server permissions, as well as trying the Vault Service account, but no joy with either. Is there any documentation to clarify what permissions I need to set up to allow Backup Exec 2014 to backup the EV 11 Directory? Of specific documentation for creating a backup job for Enterprise Vault in BE2014. The BE2014 Admin Guide doesn't seem to go in to this detail.
Thanks
Using Backup Exec 2014. The job was skipped (msg below) and I am not able to re-run the duplicate. If I right click on the job and say run now it is skipped again with the message:
e000e054 - The job was skipped because the source backup job is not present.
This is a similar situation to www.symantec.com/connect/forums/cant-rerun-duplicate-job-be-2014but not identical. In this case the backup stage is configured to duplicate the Most Recent Full Backup - as far as I understand it should be possible to re-run. The last full backup was successful, went to a disk that is online and is not due to expire for several weeks.
I have deleted and re-created the duplicate stage. Hoping to avoid deleting and re-creating the entire job.
I've to backup a folders in Linux Server. some folders have to backup in everyday and some folders have to backup once in a month.
easily i've schdeuled everyday backup. can you give me idea to create new schdeule for particular folders for same server.
I've scheduled Linux server to backup using Backup Exec 2012. backing up process is running perfectly.
I'm having a requirment to restore data. then i followed restoring process. under what do you want to restore step i've choosed File and Folder Backup. after that it shows that Querying for data. now it's passed 24 hours also. is it possible or abnormal ?
please advise me.
I need some help understanding the licensing structure if I choose to go the CASO route. With one existing Backup Exec Server, do I need to purchase another Backup Exec Server license and the ESO option to add another server? Or can I just purchase the ESO option? Is there anything else I should be considering?
Thanks.

I have Symantec Backup exec v-ray edition in media server. I have made a schedule Monday backup of VM machine to NAS at every Monday 11:00pm, in opinion of set keep 7 days and job completed at Tuesday around 03:00am. When one week past, backup job cycle will start 11:00pm, but media server will delete Monday backup set around 02:00am and job will stop by Symantec backup. Then I have change to keep 154 hours but retention time is not accurate before 11:00pm. How to solve or make retention to manual?

Hi,
I am using Backup Exec 2012 server and Backup Agent for Hyper-V in an environment where Windows Server 2012 is the hyper-V host. Also backup destination is Tape Drive. My question is, will I be able to restore individual Files and Folders of a VM from Tape Backup? Or do i need to restore entire volume to disk for getting individual files? Please help. Thanks.
Regards,
