bakup to tape always shows notification without success

Dear Experts

I have BE2014 insalled on windows 2008 R2 x64 and connected to tape library .

I would like to perform a backup to tape as I am new in using Backup exec with Tapes I did the follwing steps:

1) select the tape and lable it with tape1

2) assign it in scrached media

3) I had clicked on inventory 

4) I configured robotic partitioins as default in the wizard ( robotic lib 1-11 and robotic lib 11-23) means two partitions as in the default configuration.

5)lastely I tryed to perform backup job -->backup to tape but it is failed with notification of (please insert media into the protral...) I respond with OK but the same notification returned again.

sometimes I get notification of please insert tape in robotic lib with command .

I am not sure about may above configuration and I dont know how to solve this problem .

Hello,

I am having an issue with my BackUp Exec. It is apparantly a well know issue, but non of the solutions I could find on the web worked for me.

So to start this is my system design at the moment:

Backup exec is 2014 version 14.1 rev 1786 64-bit, with service pack 1 installed. The software is running on a VMware virtualised Server 2012. The disk to which the data is being backeud up is an iSCSI target living on a Synology storage array.

Problematic system is a file share server running under Server 2012, where the disks with shared data are iSCSI targets also living on a Synology storage array (not the same as the backup one, they are different boxes).

The jobs fails on random files, no pattern that I can see. Originally I was backing up the entire shared folder (aroung 300GB) but when it all starder failing I split it down to smaller or larger chunks where I backup data by departments. As a reasult now I have around 10 jobs. This helped a bit as not majority or data is backed up, but still 2--5 jobs will fail with the E000FE36 error. Again random files, no patter and the same backup job will run ok the next day.

I have tried with AOFO switched on and of with Shadow copies storage enabled and disabled on th client server, pretty much any combinatin of properties I could have think of, but still no joy :(

Any ideas what might be the cause of this problem?

my BE 2014 SP2 is failing with the following error while backing up a virtual machine:

V-79-57344-3844 - The Backup Exec server could not connect to the remote computer. Ensure that a Backup Exec agent is installed and running on the remote computer. If a Backup Exec agent is installed, ensure that it is the correct version.

Remote Agent not detected on \\BACKUP.

In the BE server Windows event viewer i see the service failing:

This is happening all the time.

I've seen that there are a few technotes addressing this issue:

although it is not mentioned for BE 2014 SP2.

Whole server as well as it's agents are at the latest patch level.

Did anyone come across this issue?

SLF Licenses

Hello:

I just bought numerous licenses for Symantec BEX 2014, in this case a total of 4.  The plan is to install a backup server per site, per administrator to run and manage separately though all within the same larger network.  The SLF file produced combined all four licenses where each server now displays four licenses each giving the appearance that there are 16 licenses in total.  Is there a way to separate the SLF into four different files so I don't run into this issue?  Please keep in mind that my network does not touch the Internet so there's no way of commuinicating back to Symantec or anything of the like.

SLF Issue

Hello:

Just bought 4 BEX 2014 licenses for 4 sites with admins to manage on their own...Because the SLF combines all 4 licenses, each BEX server shows 4 licenses each giving the false impression of using 16 licenses total.  How can I split the SLF into 4 separate licenses?  Network does not have Internet access nor will it in the future.

Backup 2014 Client Side Dedupe Assistance

I'm a newbie with Backup Exec 2014 and am having issues setting up a job using client side deuplication.

My setup is Backup Exec 2014 running on Server 2012 R2 with a NAS as the deduplication drive. The job I've created is for a Server 2003 machine and when client side deduplication is enabled within the job I am getting is:

Client-side deduplication is enabled for this job, but it could not be used. Please check this link for additional information:

I've looked at the the following article for help but it didn't really help:

It does say to:

"Configure the Remote Agent with Deduplication on the agent that is being backed up.

1. Go to the Devices tab in Backup Exec console.
2. Right click on the media server node in question and select the Add Remote Agent for Deduplication menu item.
3. Specify the Server Name for the Remote Agent that is being configured and select Ok.

Note: Backup Exec will prompt to restart the services before this configuration takes effect.

Restart the Backup Exec services on the media server and run the job again. Verify that it completes successfully with the deduplication feature working as desired"

However, I don't think these instructions match anything I'm seeing in BE 2014. Can someone tell me if these instrucitons are correct for BE 2014 and if not is there anything special I need to do with regards to the client agent for deduplication?

0xe000fe30 - NDMP Communications Failure

I get this every so often on a NDMP job.

The event viewer on the media server shows

"The job failed with the following error: The NDMP subsystem reports that a request cannot be processed because it is in the wrong state to service the request."

With the job erroring out with

"V-79-57344-65072 - A communications failure has occurred. Remote Agent not detected on netappclusterdevice:10000. "

I read this article

but states to update the agent, this is a NetApp Cluster with OnTap 8.2.2 so there is no agent. Yes, we currently backing up a cluster, with 95% success. We do have issues with this error being one.

Of course it won't detect a remote agent as it is a NDMP device. but if I had to guess it isn't detecting NDMP at all at that point right? also, if I just re-run the job it usually runs fine. I believe it usually happens when 4 NDMP jobs are running at once.

Anybody else experience anythig like this? just chekcing before I talk to india......lol

Backups are failing after changing the switch - mainly system backups are failing.

We have Symantec exec2012. We recently changed the old cisco switch to new cisco switch and now backups are failing giving communication failure error.

Old and new switches are 1G switches. The backups are mainly failing in system state. I have attached the logs here.

Overwriting and Appending to tapes

Hi, I am using BE 2014. I have two tapes in my autoloader. For tape A the "Overwrite Protected Until" column says 25 Jan 2015 and for the tape B it is 20 Jan 2015. For both the tapes the "Appendable Until" column says Not appendable. When I run a backup job now the backup is done to tape B. My concern is once the tape B gets full what will happen to the backup jobs. Are they going to overwrite the contents on tape B or use tape A? I do not want to overwrite the contents on tape B as I am taking one time backups which I want to store for life time.

Any documents which explains how the tapes are used?

Why Backupexec crashes if you restart server ?

Hello!

Can someone explain it to me, why Backupexec 2010 R3 crashes when windows installs updates and then restarts itself while jobs are running ?
The same happens if you manualy restart server while jobs are running.

If you are lucky, simple service restart helps, if you arent u have to reinstall the backupexec.

Happens on win 2003 servers

Happens on win 2008 servers  

Happens on win 2012 servers. 

I dont get it, The program costs a lot of money and it can`t survive simple server restart.

I`m responsible for more than 30 servers with backupexec and its always the same. If Backupexec doesn`t work check when the server was restarted and in 95% of cases the reason for backupexec fail is server restart.

Delete old catalogs

Hi

We had a storage dataloss on our deduplication storage. We created a new storage to host a new deduplication storage.

As Backup Exec can only host one deduplication storage, I needed to delete the old one from the interface. It never really finished. The old deduplication storage disappeared from interface, but delete task was still running after a few hours.

I was able to create the new deduplication storage and restart backups but old catalogs are still there as delete task never finished.

Is there a way to delete old catalogs to prevent Backup Exec to show me that I can restore Data that dont exist anymore as old dedup storage was lost ?

Backing Up Oracle Databases

Hello,

in our BE 2014 SP1 server environment  I have setup a GRT backup job for a VM Server hosting Oracle 10g2 database. In this server the BE Agent for application and databases has also installed.

My question is related to the deletion of archive log files

AFAIK there's no such option in backup job definitions (as the selectable one into the job definitions when we setup a backup job using the agent for windows) when we need to backup the VM.

Is there any way to do this using the same backup job?

am backing up a total of 900GB of data to tape.

when it backup's a total of 23GB it stops and gives the following error

Final error: 0xe00084f8 - The network connection to the Backup Exec Remote Agent has been lost. Check for network errors. Final error category: Resource Errors

how can i trouble shoot this?

Monthly Full Backup failed with error code E000FE36 in the past 2 months ?

Hi,

I'm running Backup Exec 2012 v14.0 Rev. 1798 and for some reason I got this one monthly full backup job that is always failing with the error code E000FE36. 

After it failed, it then resumed again as I post this thread. 

Here's the error message code V-79-57344-65078:BE.JPG

Upon browsing to the directory that was mentioned above, it is still exists and already there. no one deleting or modified the directory in the same server where BE 2012 is running.

See the directory properties below, it is created long time ago:

Hi,

Since current servers will be migrated from Win 2003 to Win 2008 / Win 2008 R2.

1) Is BE 2010 agent support Win 2008 (on VM) and Win 2008 R2 (on physical machine) ?

2) Can I copy BE agent source directly from BE backup server to traget machine for instllation ?

3) Is path "C:\Program Files\Symantec\Backup Exec\Agents\RAWS32" and "C:\Program Files\Symantec\Backup Exec\Agents\RAWS64" ?

4) Just power off old mahince, then change hostname / IP same as old machine then install agent << Is this procedure work ?

Backup Exec 2010/Dell RD-1000 Drive Issue

Hi,

I've connected a Dell RD-1000 Drive via USB to a server (Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard), which I'm having problems with it being recognised/picked up within Backup Exec 2010.

I've downloaded and installed the correct drivers for this tape drive and the actual server recognises it without a problem (it's assigned as a removal disk to the G drive).

When I go to the 'Devices' tab within Backup Exec and select 'Add Device', it says no other devices were found.

Let me know if you need anymore information, but I'm thinking maybe this hardware doesn't work with Backup Exec 2010..?

Anybody know when IBM OS 1.5 for Storwize V7000 will be supported on Symantec BE 2014 with NDMP Option?

Last HCL indicate juste IBM OS 1.4 was tested and "IBM OS 1.5 is not supported yet and will not work yet."
